The Life of Christ – Session 1 – An Angel Visits Mary

Watch:

Watch the devotional video above once or several times before continuing.

Pro tip: you can set the audio speed faster or slower according to your preference.

Read:

Luke 1:30-31 “Then the angel told her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.'”

Question:

What is God calling you to that doesn’t make complete sense yet?

Reflect:

Mary was an ordinary teenager with no credentials, yet God chose her for the most extraordinary mission in history. She risked everything by saying yes. What if your ordinariness is exactly what God wants to use? What if availability matters more than credentials?

Journal:

“God, You’re calling me to… but I feel unqualified because… Like Mary, I choose to say ‘Let it be’ even though…”

Act: (Pick 1)

1. Write “Let it be” on a sticky note and put it on your bathroom mirror.

2. Do the first small step toward what God is calling you to – today, even if you don’t feel ready.

3. Text someone: “Pray for me. I think God is calling me to [specific thing] and I’m scared.”

4. Set a timer for 5 minutes and pray Mary’s prayer: “Let it be according to Your word.”

5. Make a list of 3 reasons you feel unqualified, then write “God chooses the available” across them.

Pray:

God, help me stop disqualifying myself and start saying yes to You like Mary did.

Gospel Focus:

The gospel begins with an ordinary person saying yes to an extraordinary God. Mary didn’t earn this calling through perfection – God chose her by grace. Your availability matters more than your ability.
