Most People Don’t Have Good Friends — Here’s Why
Most people don’t have good friends. That’s not an accusation — it’s a pattern. Today’s Live Bold podcast episode explores why that happens and what you can do about it.
Hosts Ryan and Gena Heller bring biblical wisdom to a topic many people avoid. Building meaningful friendships takes courage. However, the reward is worth every uncomfortable step.
What Proverbs 13:20 Says About Your Circle
Your friends are shaping your future right now. Proverbs 13:20 makes it clear: “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.” Therefore, friendship is never just personal — it’s spiritual.
The Three Levels of Friendship
First, the Hellers introduce what they call the “circle of friendship.” This concept breaks relationships into three distinct levels. Understanding each one changes how you approach people.
The outer circle includes everyone. These are people who deserve your kindness and basic respect. Also, the inner circle holds convenient life connections — coworkers, neighbors, and familiar faces.
Finally, your core friends are the ones who matter most. This group is small — just two or three people. These are the friendships that sharpen you spiritually and push you toward Christ.
How to Build Friendships on Purpose
Stop drifting into friendships and start building them intentionally. Look for the right people at church. Also, stay open to surprise friendships that don’t fit your usual mold — God often works through the unexpected.
Loyalty and faithfulness matter more than shared interests. As you grow in Christ, some relationships will shift between levels. Therefore, position every relationship wisely in your heart and hold them with open hands.
